ABOUT

Lard Dog & The Band of Shy burst onto the New York entertainment scene in 2015 with an off-Broadway theatre run called, "Life's A Real Dream".  With quirky lyrics and infectious tunes the band has drawn comparisons to Devo, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Pee Wee Herman, and the B52's.  Lard Dog has longstanding roots in New York, performing everywhere from CBGB's Gallery and Fez Under Time Café to Joe's Pub and Symphony Space.   In 2017, the band landed the #1 chart-topping song on Sirius XM Kids Place Live "13 under 13 Countdown" with the single, "I Like."

Life’s A Real Dream is an all-ages musical extravaganza that promotes positive messages of creativity, acceptance, and frivolity—with massive amounts of absurdism thrown in.  Lard Dog and his 6-piece Band of Shy invite you to their unique audio-visual universe, complete with catchy songs, multi-media graphics, and interactive props—including a pretzel toss.  Come play along and slurp the noodle of life—for Life’s A Real Dream!

THREE Frequently Asked Questions:
1) Who is Lard Dog?  He's the alter ego (who hails from Planet Belopio) of multi-media artist Steven Erdman (who hails from New York City and upstate New York). Erdman's work spans cartooning, animation, songwriting and live performance—complete with his whimsical, frivolous, and comedic sensibilities.

2) What's "LARD" stand for?  It's an acronym for Life's A Real Dream.

3) What's "DOG" have to do with it?  Absolutely nothing!

"Welcome to the singular madcap world of the talented fez-attired Lard Dog & The Band of Shy. Lard Dog, who hails from Planet Belopio, is the alter ego of New York-based multi-media artist / cartoonist / musician / songwriter Steven Erdman. Lard is an acronym, by the way, for Life's A Real Dream.
Dreamers eleven original songs combine masterful wordplay, absurdist humor, with a highly skilled almost surreal musical approach, as the Picasso-esque cover suggests. The album opens with the uplifting, confidence-building title track, which mixes ska, calypso and rock steady into an infectious dance mix. "I Like" is a horn-infused, crazy duet between Lard Dog and singer Kendy Gable (aka Honeybabe Lucky Feather) that sets a very un-Julie-Andrews-like list of favorite things to song. Confronting one's fears is playfully explored in "Don't Let the Boogah Bug You Out," while "Rock in the Rockefeller," condenses the saga of Diego Rivera's ill-fated Man at the Crossroads mural into three minutes of pure fun. Lard Dog shows he can slow down the pace, and add some lovely melodies, as in the tropical "The Kimbaloo," and the fiddle-assisted jazz swing of "Take the Road." The band switches into hoe-down mode for the sing-a-long "Honey Bunny Song," and becomes all mop-topped for "Who's Your Favorite Beatle?" Spike Lee and Boris Karloff are somehow evoked in the irrational "Colander Sun," and "Have A Good Day" celebrates this favorite catch phrase with a Mardi Gras arrangement. The album closes with an entertaining ode to New York's architectural marvels in the P.D.Q. Bach-like "Ode to Flatiron."
