ABOUT
YAM ON!
Yam On! — the experimental, indie pop sensation known for infectious melodies, frivolity, and absurdism— has a new album, Experience the Experience That Is (GO Records, 8/18/23). Formerly Lard Dog & The Band of Shy, the group has captivated audiences with its blend of eccentric lyrics and multi-media performances, garnering comparisons to legendary acts such as Devo, They Might Be Giants, and the B52's. Having performed on renowned stages, including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and the Strawberry Festival in China, Yam On! has earned international acclaim for its utterly original theatrical productions.
In 2020, lead singer and outsider artist Steven Erdman embarked on a transformative journey during the COVID pandemic, immersing himself in the whimsical world of yams—and built The Yamatorium art installation in an underground bunker in West Philadelphia. Emerging with a new artistic identity, Erdman collaborated with longtime bandmates Sharaé Moultrie, Rosa Avila, Benjamin Willis, Jeremy Beck, and Pablo Kassel plus star featured artists, including living legends La La Brooks (The Crystals) and Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra) and Rebecca Pitcher (Broadway's Phantom of the Opera), Sonia De Los Santos (Latin Grammy Nominee), The Villalobos Brothers (Carnegie Hall/Lincoln Center), and Allyson Briggs (Fleur Seule).
The thirteen tracks are produced by Erdman with collaborators Jeremy Beck, Boz Boorer, Jamie Saft, Curtis Hasselbring. Ted Richardson, Aaron Steinberg, and Jeremy Chatzky. The album delivers an auditory adventure that is sure to captivate listeners of any age—from kids swept away by whimsical wordplay (yes, there's a song about a paperclip!) to adults hooked by catchy melodies and clever arrangements— anyone can Experience The Experience That Is, Yam On!
